“Splendens ceptigera” (“The Shining Lady”) is a song from the 14th century compilation “ Lliber Vermell ”, recorded on page 23r, with Latin text.
This work is caça, a medieval canon that can be performed with two or three voices. This is indicated by the red ink inscription “Caça de duobus vel tribus”. The music is recorded in the Ars nova menusular notation.
Like the canon “ Laudemus Virginem ”, recorded on the same page of the manuscript, to the right of the text “Splendens ceptigera” there is an annotation in red ink “vel sic” (“or so”), and the song is rewritten with another penitential text “Tundentes pectora ".
| Shining Lady | | May she be our intercessor | | Parturient virgin. [one] |
| | Beat yourself in the chest | | Admit our guilt | | O Almighty. [one] |
|
Brilliant mistress, be our intercessor, Mother of God.
We beat ourselves in the chest and repent of sins, O Lord. [2] ( Laterna Magica )
