Hurum, with Hans Arne Nakrem and Geir Søli, shared the prestigious Science Popularization Award from the University of Oslo in 2001.
Scientific Discoveries
Hurum did the work of studying theropods and plesiosaurs from Svalbard . In 2006, his team discovered a huge, short-necked plesiosaurus, the largest predator ever to exist (see Predator X ).
On May 19, 2009, he reported on the work done and announced a scientific description of 95% of the entire skeleton , 47 million years old, of a primitive primate, Darwinius masillae , who had been in the private collection of fossil finds of an amateur collector for 25 years. [2] Hurum named the sample "Ida" by the name of his daughter. [3]
