Ofell ( Greek Οφελλας , lat. Ophellas ; died in 308 BC [1] ) - an officer in the army of Alexander the Great , then the ruler of Cyrenaica .

Ofell, son of Silenus, was from Pella and participated in Alexander's campaign in Asia. Arrian mentions the name of Ophella as the chief of triremes in the river fleet during the Indian campaign of 327 BC. er After the death of Alexander in 323 BC. er Ofell joined the diadocho Ptolemy , who reigned in Egypt. In 322 BC er Ptolemy sent Ophell to the Greek colony of Cyrenaica (North Africa) with the order to conquer this region, where civil strife erupted [2] . Ofell captured the Spartan commander Fibron ruling there and began to rule himself. Although he ruled as a vassal of Ptolemy, Ophell only nominally recognized his power over himself. It is known that he undertook some reforms, and in 313 BC. er there was an uprising, suppressed by Agis, the general of Ptolemy. Ofell was married to Eurydice , a noble Athenian who was from the Persian winner Miltiades .
In 308 BC er Ofell in alliance with Agathocles (ruler of Syracuse ) intended to capture Carthage . However, in the difficult transition through the sands of northern Africa, which lasted two months, the army of Opell was exhausted, many of his squad died. Although Ophell was able to reach Agathocles, the march was failed. Taking advantage of the situation, Agathocles treacherously attacked the camp of Ofell. In a skirmish, he died, and his army joined Agathocles [3] .
