Reser, Edward

Hendrik Edward Reeser ( n. Hendrik Eduard Reeser ; March 23, 1908 - November 29, 2002 ) is a Dutch musicologist.

He started his music lessons from the composition, his youthful arrangements of the works of Wagner and Mahler are known. Then he studied music journalism, studied the history of music under the leadership of Albert Smeyers . He also studied with the composer Alphonse Diepenbrock (after the teacher's death, he compiled a catalog of his compositions and prepared the publication of his correspondence). Since the 1930s. taught music history at the Rotterdam Conservatory ; from 1947 professor at the University of Utrecht .

Among the main works of Reeser - "The History of the Netherlands music, 1815-1915" ( niderl. Een eeuw Nederlandse muziek, 1815-1915 ; 1950 ). Of particular interest Reeser to the work of Mahler reflected in the collection "Mahler and Holland" ( niderl. Mahler und Holland: Briefe ; 1980 ), which included the correspondence of Mahler with the Netherlands musicians. Reser was also engaged in the preparation of a new edition of the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart ; He devoted a separate study to the life and work of Johann Gottfried Eckard .

In 1961 he was elected to the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences , in 1972 - 1977 . headed the International Musicological Society .
