Belokurov, Sergey Alekseevich

Sergey Belokurov was born on September 1 (13), 1862 in the family of a deacon. His uncle is Bishop Nicodemus (Belokurov) ^[3] .

In 1898, S. A. Belokurov published a monograph “On the Library of Moscow Sovereigns in the 16th Century”, in which he denied the existence of the “ Ivan the Terrible Library ”. In connection with his findings, the " Journal of the Ministry of Public Education " in 1899 even suggested that "the issue of the tsarist library be considered settled."

In 1904 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Church History. He was mainly engaged in the history of social and cultural life of Russia of the 16th - 17th centuries . He was an active member of the Moscow Society of Russian History and Antiquities .

Sergei Alekseevich Belokurov died on December 3, 1918.
