History

Ancient Borisov arose on the spot where the first Borisov fortress was built.

“In 1102, Prince Boris Vseslavich (the son of Prince Polotsky Vseslav Bryachislavich (Enchanter) and the uncle of a nun and enlightener Euphrosyne of Polotsk ) went to the Yatvyag and, defeating them, returning, set the city in his name ...” However, the first mention of the city in the Lavrentievsky annals refers only to 1127 , and in Ipatievskaya - to 1128 , as a fortress of the Principality of Polotsk .

The first settlement burned down as a result of a strong fire, as evidenced by archaeological excavations.

Of the later buildings in Staro-Borisov, the manor-park complex is of interest. Here was the estate of Prince Radziwill , consisting of a rich palace, in which there were collections of a collection of weapons, coins and paintings.

The history of this building dates back to January 19, 1776 , when the last king of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Stanislav Augustus Poniatowski, granted Vilnius the Kastelian, Prince Michal Jerome Radziwill , betrothed to Elena Pshedetskaya , privilized Borisov Old Town.

In 1793, after the partition of the Commonwealth, by decree of Catherine II of May 3, 1795, Minsk governorship was created with 13 counties, including Borisovsky. To preserve the land of the headman, Radziwill swore allegiance to the empress. The land of the headman was soon renamed into Russian estate. Private property of Borisov , which became the center of the district of the same name, was subject to redemption to the treasury. Thus, Radziwill lost the status of private owner in Borisov.

However, in the village of Staroborisov, a new residence of the descendant of the eminent princely family of the Radziwills settled. At the beginning of the 19th century , a central manor was built there.

The war of 1812 brought huge losses to the owner of the estate, Michal Jerome Radziwill . On the night of November 13 (25), on November 14 (26), Napoleon I Bonaparte stopped at the Staroborisovskoy estate. The French commander spent the night in the house of the chief manager Baron Korsak , and the imperial headquarters with his retinue occupied the apartments of the manor house.

In 1831, the estate was inherited by the son of Ludwik Radziwill - Leon . The new owner of the estate cost enormous strength and endurance to defend his possessions in front of the City Duma.

After the Crimean campaign of 1853-1856, Leon Radziwill, having received the rank of lieutenant general, sells the estate. The estate passes into the possession of the royal family - the Grand Dukes of the Romanovs.

She was bought by the Grand Dukes Nikolai and Peter Nikolaevich . Then the estate was sold to the treasury, and from the treasury in 1899 was bought by the august Alexandra Fedorovna and entrusted to the economist D.P. Mescherinov. He restored the ruined wooden building of Napoleon's overnight stay house during the war of 1812 as a historical monument. The result was a rather impressive wooden building, which retained its former layout - 12 rooms, a canopy. In the years 1899 - 1900, a tent church was added to the house. At the same time, a stone palace was built, to which a highway was laid and a telephone was made.

At the beginning of World War II , the headquarters of Army Group Center was located in this house. In it, on August 4, 1941, a meeting of the German command was held, at which the question was decided: go to Moscow or Kiev (there was a chosen Kiev direction). Adolf Hitler was also present at this meeting (he, like Napoleon, chose this estate). In addition to him, Schmundt was present, Field Marshal von Bock, Gott, Colonel General Guderian , Chief of Operations Colonel Heusinger .
