Greco-Roman wrestling competitions among men in the weight category up to 55 kg at the 2008 Summer Olympics were held on August 12 . 19 athletes from different countries took part.
One of the main surprises of the entire wrestling tournament of the Games in Beijing was the failure of the three-time world champion (2005, 2006 and 2007) and the favorite of the competitions in the category up to 55 kg of Iranian Hamid Sorian . Sorian first lost in the quarter-finals to the future Olympic champion Nazir Mankiev , and then lost in the battle for third place to Korean Pak Eun Chol. Sorian won his Olympic gold 4 years later at the London Games .
