The operetta was written in 1872 [2] , first staged in the same year at the theater of Hakob Vardovyan . Libretto in Turkish.

In 1872 , after the premiere of the operetta Arif, a prominent Turkish poet and journalist Namik Kemal wrote in the Ibret newspaper:

This is the first work in our opera language. Its structure is beautiful and its music is beautiful. Turkish is suitable for musical compositions. Compositions are given the form corresponding to his lyrics.
