History
The idea of creating such a sports facility arose from the leadership of the South-Eastern Administrative Okrug of Moscow and was related to the fact that in this district of Moscow there was no suitable hall for holding a traditional tournament in Greco-Roman wrestling in memory of Boris Gurevich . The Moskvich Sports Palace , in which this tournament was held, could not fit everyone who wanted to see the competition and was cramped for the wrestlers themselves. It was decided to build a new six-storey sports complex on the territory belonging to the Radiopribor plant , the management of which agreed to cede this site in favor of the sports facility under construction. Due to financial and technical difficulties, the threat of suspension or even complete cessation of construction repeatedly arose, and nevertheless in 2004 it was put into operation. The ceremonial opening of the sports complex with the participation of Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov was held on February 14, 2004. Initially, the sport center was called “Martial Arts Center”, but later it was decided to rename it to the Fight Palace and assign the name of the outstanding Soviet wrestler Ivan Yarygin .
