Yenisei Ecological Station
In Mirny is the Yenisei Ecological Station of the Institute of Ecology and Evolution. A. N. Severtsova RAS ( IPEE RAS ).
Directions of the scientific work of the station [3] :
- The study of biological diversity on the Yenisei meridional transect. Comprehensive long-term monitoring .
- Scientific basis of taiga and tundra nature management .
- Ecosystem conservation and the scientific basis of conservation .
- Population-environmental studies.
- Ethno-ecological research.
The station was organized on the initiative of Academician of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences E. E. Syroechkovsky in 1969 on the territory of the abandoned village of Mirnoye, which had actually been abandoned by that time. The station was given a large plot of taiga (300 thousand ha). Subsequently, this territory received the status of an integrated regional reserve . Then the Turukhansk Biotechnological Station was transformed into the Northern (Yenisei) Ecological Station and transferred in 1980 to the Institute of Ecology and Evolution Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
On the base of the station, in-depth stationary and expeditionary biological and environmental studies have been launched, which have been ongoing to this day, for more than 30 years [4] .

The village of Mirnoe is mentioned in interviews and literary works of the writer Mikhail Tarkovsky .
The life of a biological hospital in Mirny is described in the story “Give me back” [5] . In the story, the name Peace, is changed to "Far".
