Biography
September 10, 1936 entered the navy as a cadet . October 1, 1938 promoted to lieutenant. He served on the destroyer "Tiger". In October 1938 he was transferred to the submarine fleet.
World War II
Since May 1939, the 2nd watch officer on the U-37 submarine. In June 1942 he was transferred by the instructor to the 25th (training) flotilla and in January 1942 he was assigned to its headquarters.
June 3, 1942 he was appointed commander of the submarine U-413 (Type VII-C), on which he made 6 campaigns (having spent a total of 287 days at sea), mainly in the North Atlantic. In February 1944, the British destroyer Warwick was sunk.
On April 19, 1944, he was recalled to Germany and appointed head of the group at the naval school in Murvik . Since January 1945 he served in the headquarters of the commander of the submarine fleet.
March 21, 1945 awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross.
In total, during the hostilities, Pöll sank 5 ships and vessels with a total displacement of 35,625 gross tons .
