History

SRM-1 "Cossack" was developed by the research and production association " Practice " [3] on an initiative basis [4] . The main designer of the project was Evgeny Malashin [1] .

It was first seen on August 19, 2009 at the rehearsal of the military parade [5] , was first shown to the general public on August 24, 2009 , at the parade in honor of Independence Day of Ukraine in Kiev [6] .

In total, until 2013, 1 CPM-1 Kozak machine and 2 full-size unarmored sheet metal models were manufactured on the basis of the GAZ-66 and GAZ-53 trucks. [7]

As of June 2013, the CPM-1 Kozak machine was not adopted for service [8] . As of early March 2014, the armored car was in storage in a mothballed condition along with mock-ups [9] .

On September 19, 2014, the Prime Minister of Ukraine A.P. Yatsenyuk examined the armored vehicle, after which it was decided that the Kozak was too expensive on the IVECO chassis and would not be produced [10] .

On September 22, 2014, the Kozak armored car was again shown at the training ground of the National Guard training center near the village of New Petrovtsy in the Kiev region. The armored vehicle was still not in service, and orders for its production were not received either from the state or from private individuals [11] .

September 24-27, 2014 the same armored car "Kozak" [12] was presented at the International Exhibition Center in Kiev, where the XI International Specialized Exhibition "Arms and Security-2014" was held. Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada A. V. Turchinov , who visited the exhibition on September 24, 2014, said that a number of military-industrial complex developments presented at the exhibition would be sent directly from the exhibition to the combat zone [13] [14] .

November 30, 2014 at the training ground in Novy Petrovtsi was presented a new version of the armored car - "Kozak-2014" [15] .

Design

The armored vehicle has a conventional layout with a front engine, a control compartment in the middle of the vehicle, and a cargo compartment is located in the rear of the vehicle.

The body of the armored vehicle is welded, made of steel armor plates located at an angle. Reservations provide protection against small arms fire [1] in accordance with STANAG 4569 Level 1 [2] . Sheets of armor steel - imported, made in Sweden [10] .

The cargo compartment is not armored [2] .

The bottom of the armored capsule is double, its lower part has a V-shape to increase mine resistance. Additional protection against the blast wave is created by batteries and a fuel tank placed in the double floor. In order to reduce the risk of injury during a blast, all seats have safety belts and a cushioning system (they are mounted on a special frame suspended from the sides) [1] .

Glass bulletproof, Ukrainian production [4] .

Armament

Small arms can be installed on the armored car, the fastening for which is provided in the pivoting sunroof [1] :

  • 7.62 mm PKMS machine gun with 2,500 rounds of ammunition [1] ;
  • 12.7 mm heavy machine gun ( NSVT or KT-12.7) with an ammunition load of 450 or 500 rounds [1] ;
  • 30-mm automatic grenade launcher ( AGS-17 or KBA-117 [16] ) with 100 rounds of ammunition
  • 40 mm UAG-40 automatic grenade launcher with 87 rounds of ammunition

Later it was provided for the possibility of installing on the roof of an armored vehicle a combat module with remotely controlled weapons, the operator of which is located in the cabin [4] .

Engine and transmission

The power plant is a four-cylinder diesel engine with a capacity of 176 liters. with. from a 3-ton truck Iveco Daily 55S18W. The ZF6S gearbox is a six-speed manual [2] .

Chassis

Tires are bulletproof with plastic Runflat inserts. Initially, high-profile diagonal tires from GAZ-66 were installed on the machine. In the process of testing, refinement and transfer to the customer, lower Michelin radial tires of size 225/100 R16 were installed [1] .

Additional equipment

The machine is equipped with a radio station (on the first model of 2009, an army radio station manufactured by the Odessa plant "Telecard-Pribor" [10] was installed), a navigator ( GLONASS + GPS ), a DRG-T radiation reconnaissance device, a video recorder with a rear-view screen and a climate unit control [1] . Parktronic was installed on the first sample [17]

Since bulletproof glass blocks 56 mm thick do not open and drown out sounds from the outside, the armored car is equipped with an intercom [1]

Options and Modifications

  • CPM-1 "Kozak" on the chassis of a civilian truck IVECO Daily 55S18W 4x4 is a multi-purpose armored car that can be used as a police patrol car, army reconnaissance or command post vehicle, including for peacekeeping forces [1] [18] . As of mid-July 2014, the cost of one armored car was 2 million hryvnia [19] .
  • BBM "Kozak" on the chassis of an army truck GAZ-66 - development began in 2009, when a prototype with a three-door body was created [7] . In the spring of 2014, the cost of production of one armored car was estimated at 500-550 thousand hryvnias [10] , in mid-July 2014 the cost of production of one armored car was 1 million hryvnias [4] . As of September 19, 2014, work on the pre-production prototype of the machine continued, but was not completed [10] .

The carrying capacity of the armored vehicle is 4 tons, the landing compartment is designed for 10 people [22] . It is possible to install additional equipment on the armored vehicle (rear view cameras, thermal imager, air conditioning, radiation reconnaissance device) [23] . In December 2014, the cost of production of one Kozak-2014 was 250-280 thousand US dollars [24] .
  • anti-tank complex “Skif” based on the armored vehicle “Kozak” - presented in April 2013 [25]
  • Kozak car - an unarmored civilian version, the possibility of production by order was provided [1]

In addition, in 2009 a prototype version of the Kozak armored car was built on the GAZ-53 chassis [4] , but this version was not further developed. In September 2014, work began on the Big Kozak project (the creation of the Kozak armored vehicle on the Ford F550 chassis) [10] .

Operator countries
