He graduated from the Maritime School in Barcelona ( 1922 ), then worked as a teacher in his hometown. In 1927 he went to Venezuela and for more than 30 years he was engaged in cartographic and then botanical research of its inaccessible areas. In the first year of his stay in the country, he participated, in particular, in an expedition to the high-mountain waterfall Churun, and in 1937 he participated in both (May and October) flights to the waterfall of the American pilot Jimmy Angel , which brought world fame to this natural monument, As a result, the waterfall was named Angel in his honor.
Honorary Member of the American Geographical Society ( 1958 ).
