Copley, Charlto

Charlto's father, Bruce, is a multiplier ^[1] . Copley has a younger brother and sister: Donovan (musician and leader of the South African group Hot Water ) and Marisa (fashion designer and owner of the textile firm With Out ).

Charlto Copley attended Headhill Private High School, located in the suburb of Johannesburg from 1987 to 1991 . Even then, he was interested and engaged in amateur production (both theater performances and films). Here he meets Simon Hansen (his future business partner), which eventually allowed Kopli to expand the boundaries of his work and reach a new level of direction.

A few years after graduation, Copley moved to Cape Town to create his own media company, Channel 69 Studios , with Hansen. Their firm is licensed to broadcast on South Africa’s fifth television channel e.tv. But soon they become an independent company again because of the internal policy of the channel. At the same time, Charlto, at the age of 20, meets 14-year-old Neil Blomkamp (the future director of the film “District 9”) and hires him in his company as a computer graphics designer ^[2] .

At the beginning of his career, he shot video clips , short films , etc. In 2005, Copley and Hansen produced Blomkamp's six-minute film “ Survive in Joburg ” (Alive in Joburg), which was re-shot in 2009 by Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp called “ District number 9 , where Charlto plays a major role. When shooting the film, Copley improvised in most speeches and dialogues in order to achieve the maximum effect of the style of documentary films ^[3] .

Subsequently, Charlto played a number of roles in Blomkamp's other science fiction films. In the film " Elysium - Heaven is not on Earth, " he played the role of the main villain, the Kruger mercenary. In the film “ Robot named Chappi ” he voiced and played with the help of motion capture of the main character - the intelligent robot Chappi.

In addition to major projects, Copley often plays in independent low-budget science fiction films, such as “ Europe ” (2013) or “ Hardcore ” (2015).

He became the prototype of the appearance and voice of Jimmy’s character in the game “ Payday 2 ” (2013). Voiced Orma in the cartoon "The Snow Queen 2: Perezamorozka " (2014) ^[4] .

Personal life

In January 2012, Charlto began dating model and actress Tanit Phoenix ^{[5] [6] [7]} . On March 28, 2015, the couple announced their engagement, ^[8] and on February 15, 2016, their wedding took place in Cape Town ^[9] .
