History

Before the Armenian-Azerbaijani war of 1987-1994. the line was operated from Hrazdan to Kazakh, located in Azerbaijan , on the Baku - Tbilisi line , but due to the blockade of Armenia by Azerbaijan, the movement of trains between the station Ijevan and Art. Kazakh was discontinued back in 1988 . In 1994, a collapse occurred in the Dilijan - Ijevan section, but since the line was not active, the section was not restored. At present, the station is the final one and there is no railway traffic towards Azerbaijan.

There are currently no shipments on the line. In June 2009, the SCR leadership planned to open suburban traffic from Art. Kanaker (in the north of Yerevan) to the station Ijevan, but this project was frozen. The value of the line may increase sharply if the border with Azerbaijan and Turkey is opened, as well as with the construction of a twenty-kilometer section of Violetovo - Vanadzor , which will be the closest railway route from Azerbaijan to Turkey.
