Overview
The album contains selected recordings from Presley's performances in August 1969 at the International Hotel in Las Vegas . In the spring of 1969, Presley signed a contract for seasonal performances at the hotel for 4 years (the season lasted a month; performances were held twice a day). Presley opened the summer season on July 31, 1969: before that, Presley gave a concert for the last time in March 1961 (except for the 1968 television show). RCA Records recorded at least 10 gigs that season, if not all. The album included songs recorded on August 22, 24, 25 and 26, 1969; they were mounted in such a way and in such a sequence as to give the impression of an entire recorded concert.
The concert consists of two conditional parts: in the first Presley performs the old hits of the 1950s. (“ Blue Suede Shoes ”, “ Hound Dog ”, “ Johnny B. Goode ”, etc.), and in the second his new repertoire (“ Suspicious Minds ”, “ In the Ghetto ”, Bee Gees song “ Words ”). The performance ends with “Can't Help Falling In Love” from the movie “ Blue Hawaii ”, which Presley closed all his concerts in 1969-1977. The following songs on the album have no studio analogues and exist with Presley only in concert form: “Johnny B. Goode”, “My Babe”, “ Tiger Man ” and “Words”.
Many say that Presley was in a good mood and took pleasure in these first concerts in many years (subsequently, despite hundreds of concerts annually, Presley got a little cooler to performances, and their quality depended entirely on the singer’s changing mood). Therefore, Presley's performances in this first concert season (August 1969) are regarded highly among fans, and each release of the album with recordings of this period is expected with interest. To date, four more albums have been officially released with (full) concerts from this season: “ Live in Las Vegas ” (2001; 1st disc with a concert on 08.24.69), “ Elvis At The International ” (2002; concert on 23.08.69 ), “ All Shook Up ” (2005; concert 26.08.69) and “ Viva Las Vegas ” (2007; 2nd disc with a concert 21.08.69).
