History
Foundation
There is no exact information on the basis of the alpine village of Roar, it is also not certain whether the name of the mountain was taken as the name of the village or vice versa. In the history of Armenia, the word "Roar" is found as the name of the Iberian king Roar of the 1st son of the Armenian king Pokor [7] .
Middle Ages
In the Middle Ages, after the collapse of the Armenian principality of Khachen into five melikdoms, the village became the possession of Melik Jraberd , and the tribal village of his military commander Arzuman. In the village, his descendants still live among them, to this day the legend about the robber-servant of the prince is still fresh.
Raffi in his book “The Melikkstv Khamsy” describing the exploits of Arzuman in the battles with Panah Khan says:
..The people of Karabakh talk about how Tuli-Arzuman, Dali-Mahras and Chalagan-Yuzbashi did not allow more than one Türk to pass through Mazi Kamurj to Jraberd and Gulistan for seven whole years [8] |
Speaking of Aruzman himself, Raffi writes:
Tulles in Turkish means a robber, but not a petty robber who robs at night. Tyuli acts completely openly: he robs caravans, cities and villages in broad daylight. Arkuman was also the son of the shepherd father Melik Atam (melika Israel), childhood shepherd and then became one of the best warlords melika Atama [8] |
.
After the liquidation of the self-government of the Armenian meliks of the mountainous Karabakh [8] [9] , the village of Roar as well as all five melikdoms of the Khamsa are part of the Karabakh khanate, which was under the supreme primacy of Persia [10] [11] , which in 1813 under the Treaty of Gulistan peace Russia, and later in 1822 was abolished in the province.
In 1920, after the establishment of Soviet power and the decision of the Caucasus Bureau of the Central Committee of the RCP (b), the village of Roar as well as the entire territory of Nagorno-Karabakh with 94% of the Armenian population [12] [13] [14] [15] was incorporated into the Azerbaijan SSR as an autonomy . During the years of Soviet power, peasants in the village were united in a collective farm engaged in cattle breeding and farming, and sericulture was developed in Rebe and neighboring villages in the 40-50s [16] . During the Great Patriotic War, the residents of Reva also contributed to the victory over fascism. Thus, 162 people went to the defense of their homeland, 82 of whom died, and two Vladimir Oganesyan and Suren Petrosyan received the highest award of the country - the title Hero of the Soviet Union [ 17] .
War
Before the collapse of the USSR, the Rev was located in the Stepanakert region of the NKAR near the administrative border with the Agdam district of the Azerbaijan SSR.
In the late 80s, due to the escalation of the conflict and the intensification of tension in the region, both in the village and in the region as a whole, the economic indicators of production are falling, the number of robberies and hijacking of cattle increases. So V. Balayan, deputy chairman of the Agricultural Industry of NKAO, noted that in only 5 months of 1991, 315 heads of sheep were stolen from the village of Rev, [18] earlier in the evening of April 29 the first victim appeared was Grisha Zakharyan, a resident of the village who received a gunshot wound [19] .
Since the beginning of the active phase of hostilities, many refugees come to the village from nearby villages and Stepanakert , bloody battles take place in the district itself, as well as throughout the former NKAO , but despite the proximity of the theater of operations and periodic bombardment by aviation, the village was not significantly affected. Two (Khachikyan Slavik and Arushanyan Armen) from among volunteers who went to war fell on the battlefield after which they were buried in their native village near the obelisk established in honor of the villagers who died during the 2nd World War.
Post-war period
After the reform of the administrative-territorial division, the village of Roar, like all the settlements of the former Stepanakert district of the NKAR , became known as the Askeran region of the NKR . In the village, with the support of the head of state, a number of programs were carried out, as a result of which the village was gasified [20] and a telephone line was connected. Two houses for families in need were purchased for funds allocated by the government in the village [21] . Due to the fact that the village is located in a seismic zone, a seismic station was opened by the national seismic protection service in 1997 [22] .
Attractions
In the area of the village, after the end of the Karabakh war, iron tips of spears and droths were found during demining. The village has a khachkar of the 8th – 9th century and the remains of a church of the 19th century, but the main attraction is the ruins located near the village dating from the 16th century of the monastery complex of Sv. Gevorka [23] . From the village there is a beautiful view of the Karabakh plateau.
