Badge of Honorary Citizen of Vologda

Honorary Citizen of the City of Vologda - an honorary title conferred on the citizens of the Russian Federation by the Vologda City Duma in order to recognize outstanding services to the city of Vologda . It existed in 1865 - 1917 , restored in 1964 .

Rank History

For the first time the title was awarded by the Vologda City Council in 1865 to the Vologda Governor S.F. Khominsky . Before the revolution, 13 people were awarded it. After the revolution, the title was not awarded for a long time.

The tradition of conferring the title was renewed in 1964 . Vologda was the second city in the USSR (after Kaluga ), revived this type of promotion of merit. The first Soviet citizen awarded him was the hygienist V. V. Lebedev [1] . Since 1865, 59 people have become honorary citizens of Vologda.

Assignment Procedure

Before the revolution, the title was appropriated by the city council. In Soviet times, the city executive committee made decisions about this. In post-Soviet times, these powers were again delegated to deputies of the City Duma. The application for consideration of applications on matters related to the award of the title “Honorary Citizen of the City of Vologda”, the award of the sign “For Merit to Vologda” and the perpetuation of outstanding events and names of citizens related to the history of the city of Vologda ” [] 2] .
