Northern Hont, Northern Gont , Hontianskie аupa ( Slovak. Hont , Hung. Hont ) is a historical region of Slovakia . Includes 3/4 of the ancient committee of Haunt . Recently, in tourist literature, the North Hont has been given the name Poiplie.
Northern Hont is located in the districts of Banska Štiavnica , Krupina , and partly in the districts of Levice , Nowe Zamky and Wielki Krtish of the Slovak Republic.
After the First World War , in 1918, most of Hont (3/4) moved to the newly formed Czechoslovakia, making up the Hontian Jupa (confirmed by the 1920 Trianon Treaty). A small piece southeast of the Ipel River (1/4 of the former Honta ) remained behind Hungary. Khontiansky zhupa existed until 1922. January 1, 1923 she became part of the Zvolensky zhupa. In 1928, the administrative division into zhupa was eliminated.
In accordance with the Vienna Arbitration, most of North Hont was returned to Hungary. On October 11, 1938, the Hungarian flag was solemnly raised above the town of Steps . In 1945, Northern Hont again moved to Czechoslovakia. Since 1993 - as part of the Slovak Republic.

The region is located in the valleys of the Krupinitsa and Ipel rivers.
