Geography
Located near the coast of Brazil . There are two cities on the island: Itaparika and Vera Cruz. It has an area of 146 km². The island’s population is about 55,000 people (2010). The island is distinguished by a variety of fauna and flora. Its coast is surrounded by coral reefs for a long time. The climate is tropical, rainy season (May-June).
History
The island was discovered on November 1, 1501 by the expedition of Amerigo Vespucci .
