The interior theater , the creator and permanent leader of which is directed by Nikolai Belyak , has always represented the interests of St. Petersburg culture, revealed its originality and uniqueness. Over the past twenty-seven years since its inception, it has realized itself as a special theater that organized art statements in various architectural spaces of St. Petersburg that caused a significant sociocultural resonance.

Now the basis of the Interior Theater is the creation and regular rental of a classic and modern chamber repertoire in its premises on 104 Nevsky Prospect .

History

The St. Petersburg Interior Theater was officially created on July 8, 1988. But for the first time, the city started talking about a new artistic direction in the late 1970s, when a group of theater enthusiasts, led by director Nikolai Belyak , staged "Scenes from the Faust" by A. Pushkin in the premises of the Leningrad House of Architect. The classic text was played out in the interior of the home library of the former Polovtsov mansion. Thus, back in 1976, the premiere of the play “A Scene from Faust”, Nikolai Belyak announced his aesthetic program, which was realized in the original direction of the drama theater - the so-called "Interior theater." The architectural space of St. Petersburg was considered as an art space for various interior performances.

So there was a project for a series of interior performances on the “Little Tragedies” by A. S. Pushkin , interior evenings at Derzhavin’s House on Fontanka, staging of the play “Autumn Boredom” by N. Nekrasov in the office of the poet’s apartment museum, the project “Radix!” Dedicated to the Russian avant-garde 1920s and carried out jointly with the Paris Theater "La Fabriks" in the Sports Palace "Jubilee", the interior performance "The Day Will Be ..." based on the play by L. Andreev "Requiem" in the exhibition hall of the Interior Theater on 104 Nevsky Prospect and others.

Active participation of the Interior Theater in the social and cultural life of Leningrad, St. Petersburg (more than 100 different socio-cultural events, such as protecting the “Delvig House” from demolition in 1986, “Citizen's Day” in 1988, “Space - Man - Culture” in 1991, the closing ceremony of the "Goodwill Games-94", "St. Petersburg Carnival-97", "Jubilee Decade" in 1993-2003, etc.) was carried out as part of the grandiose project "City Mystery", whose task was to reveal and actualize the uniqueness of St. Petersburg tury.

In 1991, the foundation was laid for the creation of a unique collection of carnival costumes based on architectural monuments and urban sculpture of St. Petersburg . Costumes took part in many significant city and international events.

Chamber performances of the theater are laureates and graduates of various international theater festivals. In 2011, the St. Petersburg Interior Theater was awarded the G.V. Starovoitova Foundation Medal.

In 2005, on the basis of the theater, an actor’s course was recruited at SPbGATI , whose graduates became the basis of the young troupe of the theater and the creative core in the implementation of its modern ideas.

In 2012, the following acting course was recruited.

Every year, the birthdays of G.R.Derzhavin , A.S. Pushkin , and O. E. Mandelstam are especially celebrated in the theater, and evenings in memory of the outstanding politician G.V. Starovoitova are regularly held.

The St. Petersburg Interior Theater is a co-founder of the Pushkinskaya 10 art center , the Three Centuries of Russian Romance music festival, and the Terra Incognita cinema festival dedicated to unknown phenomena in the art of theater and cinema.
