History

Ernesto Che Guevara announced the creation of the National Liberation Army at a meeting of his unit near camp M-26 on March 25, 1967 . He wrote the Manifesto of the ANO, an appeal to the Bolivian miners . In total, Che Guevara made four reports on the actions of the Army, but only one reached the independent Bolivian press. All other ELN documents were intercepted by the authorities [1] .

ANO is waging an armed struggle against the dictatorship of Hugo Banzer , who established a repressive regime and joined Operation Condor . During the hunt for the Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie , who was one of the organizers of the coup d'état supported by the Argentine junta (and also advised the Bolivian command in the fight against Che Guevara [2] [3] ), the urban structure of the ANO suffered heavy losses.

In 1972 the political wing of the autonomous political organization, the Revolutionary Party of Workers of Bolivia , was created. In 1973, the National Liberation Army, merging with the Russian Academy of Sciences , the MID and Tupamaros , created the Junta of revolutionary coordination . In 1976, in Paris, the ANO executed the commander of the 8th division of the general (colonel during the execution of Guevara) Centeno Anaya, who was involved in the death of Che Guevara. In 1978 , after the overthrow of Banzer , the National Liberation Army disintegrates, and its members join various social movements.

The fate of surviving activists

Marcos Farfan, one of the surviving members of the National Liberation Army, became Deputy Minister of the Interior in the government of Evo Morales and has since been investigating the “ dirty war ” during the dictatorship [4] .

Loyola Gusman Lara - Guevara’s connected with the city underground, and then a partisan - is now also investigating the crimes of the dictatorial regime.

Michael Notdurfter (1961–1990) is a South Tyrolean theologian and revolutionary internationalist, who joined the reviving National Liberation Army in the second half of the 1980s .
