The park was established by Decree No. 531 dated May 20, 1992 near the Sierra Aparadus National Park. It covers an area of 17,300 hectares.
Serra Geral is one of the most interesting natural parks in Brazil. The relief of the park is characterized by hills, mountains, valleys. It has a rich and diverse flora and fauna, there is a wide variety of reptiles, amphibians, birds, insects and small mammals.
The climate is mild. The average annual temperature is 18 to 20 ° C, the absolute maximum is 34 to 36 ° C, and the absolute minimum is −8 to −4 ° C. Precipitation falls from 1500 to 2000 mm per year.
The park is open to tourists.
