Doom
November 25, 1941, while in the Mediterranean Sea near the border of Egypt and Libya , the battleship was attacked by a German submarine U-331 (commander Lieutenant Tiesenhausen ). The boat penetrated the guards of destroyers and from a distance of 370 meters fired four torpedoes, three of which hit the target. The battleship lost speed and began to roll to the port side. A few minutes later, a powerful explosion blew the ship to pieces, killing 862 people. The cause of the explosion was obviously a fire in the artillery cellar. The Barem is the only English battleship sunk by a submarine on the high seas.
