Kong Christian stod ved højen mast [1] ("King Christian stood at the high mast") - the Danish royal anthem, was officially adopted in 1780. The author of the text is Johannes Ewald . In 1778, Ewald wrote a song for his play “Fishermen” about poor Zealan fishermen who saved the ship’s shipwreck commander and refused monetary compensation. The author of the melody is not exactly known; authorship was attributed to both a number of Danish composers ( Hartmann , Kulau ) and folk art.
