The building was built at the end of the 17th century . According to local legend, Emperor Peter I stayed in this house twice: the first time - in 1695 before the Azov campaign , the second time - in 1722 , when he came to Nizhny Novgorod to visit the grave of Kuzma Minin .

Initially, the chambers belonged to the merchant Chatygin, at the beginning of the XVIII century. - to merchants Dokukin, in 1765 - to the widow of Mikhail Dokukin, Irina Petrovna. Subsequently, the owners of the chambers repeatedly changed. In the XIX century. the building was dilapidated and was used as an overnight house. In 1888 , with the establishment of the Nizhny Novgorod Provincial Scientific Archival Commission, the house was acquired as a relic of the city for the placement of historical materials.

On March 6, 2008 , the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region approved the boundaries of the Chatygin House (House of Peter the Great) as an object of cultural heritage .

The House of Peter I Bar

In 1996-2005 in the basement of the "House of Peter I" was the pub of the same name, which became the favorite "underground" concert venue for Nizhny Novgorod musicians and music lovers. The Small Stage gave shelter to many folk and rock bands, many of which subsequently gained fame. There were “DNA”, “Not of Our World” (now “ Uma2rmaH ”), Alexei “Colonel” Hrynov, “40 degrees”, Shannon, The Racoons, The Dartz (St. Petersburg), Puck & Piper (Moscow), “ Mata Hari ”(Dzerzhinsk). In June 2005, the city administration did not extend the lease with the owners of the institution under the pretext of a ban on the placement of entertainment venues within the walls of historical monuments. At the moment, the room is in a half-abandoned state.
