Military
Medical air transport was probably used in 1870 during the siege of Paris , when 160 French troops were injured and transported by balloon to France . During World War I, air ambulances were tested by various military organizations. The aircraft were still primitive, with limited capabilities, and caused an ambiguous reaction. Nevertheless, research continued, and in 1936 an air ambulance was organized to evacuate the wounded in the Spanish Civil War for treatment in the Third Reich .
Civil
