Negresco was born into a family innkeeper in Bucharest. At the age of 15, he left his homeland and went first to Paris, and then to the French Riviera , where he made a career, becoming the manager of the Municipal casino in Nice. His dream was to build a luxury hotel in Nice only for the wealthiest guests. The idea of creating a luxurious hotel-palace was supported by French entrepreneur Alexander Darrac by his own means. The famous hotel, which received his name, opened on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice in 1912 . However, the glory of Negresco lasted only until the outbreak of World War I. Due to financial difficulties, Henri Negresco was forced to sell his brainchild shortly before his death.
