Nature

The top of the mountain is a landscape of bare rocks and stone pools, and it overlooks the surroundings, including the horizon of central Atlanta , Mount Kennesaw , and even on very clear days Appalachian mountains . On some days, the top of the mountain is shrouded in thick fog, and visibility may be limited to just a few feet.

At the top, clean freshwater pools form with rainwater collecting in the hollows, they are home to unusual mollusks and shrimps. Tiny shrimp appear only in the rainy season. In the process of cryptobiosis, tiny shrimp eggs can remain inactive for years in dried cavities in anticipation of favorable conditions. At the top of these basins are also several rare and endangered plant species such as Isoetes melanospora and Gratiola amphiantha . [2] [3]
