History
The village of Cismicioi of the Vulcanesti district was founded in 1809. A group of Gagauz migrants in the amount of 16 families received permission from the Governor-General of the Bessarabian region of Russia to settle between the villages of Vulcanesti, Etulia and Giurgiulesti at the junction of two slopes five kilometers from Lake Cagul. Here, immigrants under the left slope found a source of water (Cheshma) and settled near it and called their village Chishmikiya, which in Russian means “place at the source”.
Cismicioi during the annexation of Romania was part of the Izmail district, and then in the Cahul district.
