The city of Bodaybo is located at the mouth of the river Bodaybo. Upstream on it are the settlements of Kyakhtinsky , Vasilyevsky , Aprelsk , the workers' settlements of Balakhninsky and Artyomovsky . Previously existing, now liquidated: Uspensky, Andreevsk, Leninsky and others.
In the basin of the Bodaibo River and its tributaries in 1865-2001, 620 tons of gold were mined [4] . This is more than half of all gold mined since 1846 in the Bodaibo area (1,125 tons for 2001).
Mining is conducted in a dredge and in a separate way, until the 80s of the 20th century, mining was carried out in the upper reaches (Artyomovsky mine ).
The main gold-bearing tributaries are Nakatami, Bolshoy Dogaldyn, Bolshoy and Maly Chanchiki, Illigiri, Gromovsky Key.
For almost the entire length, the valley of the river has been reworked into dumps, representing a characteristic "lunar" landscape. The water is noticeably turbid (after flowing into the Vitim, the difference between the Bodaibo and Vitim water is observed visually for several kilometers, especially from the air).
The water body system: Vitim → Lena → Laptev Sea .
