Biography
Born on January 15, 1921 in the family of the composer, a graduate of the Leipzig Conservatory, Vasily Mikhailovich Alekseev and Ekaterina Ivanovna Gorozhankina, daughter of the famous Russian professor of botany at the Moscow Imperial University (now Lomonosov Moscow State University), Ivan Nikolaevich Gorozhankin , in Rostov-on-Don, where from Moscow, the family went from hunger.
In 1948 he graduated from Moscow University , History Department . From 1948 to 1950 he worked at the Grodno Historical and Archeological Museum, from 1953 - at the Institute of Archeology of the USSR Academy of Sciences . In 1954, he discovered in the Leningrad Archive photographic plates (negatives) of the Cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk [2] , through which it was reconstructed [1] . In 1955 he defended his thesis on the topic “Polotsk land in the 9th — 13th centuries”. In 1962 - 1966 he taught archeology at the Mogilev Pedagogical Institute . In 1985 he defended his doctoral thesis on the subject “Smolensk land in the 9th — 13th centuries.” He was married to the daughter of the revolutionary Menshevik Vladimir Konstantinovich Ikova Shiryaeva Natalia Vladimirovna. Have a son.
He is the author of numerous works on the history of the Polotsk and Smolensk lands of the XI - XIII centuries . He studied historiography and personalities of the Belarusian archeology, art history and local history.
He was buried in Moscow at Vvedensky cemetery , 8 uch. (burial of Shiryayevs, Zeybert).
