Ilmar Verpakoevskis ( Latvian: Ilmārs Verpakovskis ; born , ) is a Soviet and Latvian footballer . Master of Sports of the USSR (1989). He was considered a good penalty shooter , was a fast and technical footballer, had a good pass and a hit [2] . Now a trainer [3] .

Biography

He spent most of his career in “ Zveinieks ” from Liepaja , who played in the second league of the USSR , in 1989 he spent one season for the Riga “ Daugava ” in the First Union League .

A participant in the first match in the history of the Latvian national team after it gained independence from the USSR , which took place on April 8, 1992 in Bucharest against Romania . Ilmar appeared on the field in the second half, when the final score was already set [2] . He has no more games for the first team of the country [4] , except for participation in the 1991 Baltic Cup [5] .

In the mid-1990s, he was a playing coach of the Liepaja Baltic First League Club, where his son Maris also played, who became one of the leaders of the Latvian national team in the 2000s. Maris earned a lot of penalties by playing in the attack , and Ilmar, having realized all of them, became the team’s top scorer in one of the seasons [2] .
