Description
Appearance
Small slender wood monitor lizard. It can reach a length from the tip of the muzzle to the cloaca of 30 cm and a total length of 80 cm. Like many tree lizards, Varanus reisingeri has a long, tenacious tail that helps it when climbing trees. This monitor lizard differs from closely related species, such as smaragdine monitor lizard ( Varanus prasinus ) and monitor lizard Makrei ( V. macraei ), black back with a pattern consisting of bright yellow spots and eyes located in 16 transverse rows. The color of the abdominal side is from yellow to whitish.
Distribution
The Varanus reisingeri range is bounded by Misool Island, located southwest of the Wogelkop Peninsula of New Guinea , Indonesia .
Lifestyle
Pretty little is known about the lifestyle and ecology of this species. Like closely related species, Varanus reisingeri lives in tropical forests, where it is held mainly in the crowns of trees.
