Bronski Beat is a British synth pop band. Achieved success in the mid -1980s with vocalist Jimmy Somerville . The band's most popular and famous song is 1984 's Smalltown Boy .

History
The Early Years (1983-1985)
Bronski Beat was founded in 1983 when Somerville, Steinbachek and Bronsky lived in the same apartment in Brixton , southwest of London. The name of the group, Bronski Beat , was proposed by Bronsky.
The debut single "Smalltown Boy" became a hit and took # 3 in the UK Singles Chart # 48 in the US and # 7 in Australia.
After Jimmy Somerville leaves
After Jimmy Somerville left The Communards in 1986, John Foster was invited to take his place.
