Located in Brazil , the left tributary of the Tapajos River. The length of the river is about 960 km.
It takes its beginning in the mountains of Serra dos Paresis, and then flows along the rarely inhabited Brazilian plateau to the north, forming rapids and waterfalls. Floods occur from December to April.
