CHP-21 is an energy company of the Moscow power system located in the north of Moscow ( Dmitrovsky district , Korovino industrial zone). It is part of the territorial generating company Mosenergo . The station has an electric capacity of 1765 MW, thermal - 4918 Gcal / h [1] , is considered one of the largest thermal stations in Europe and provides heat to about a fifth of the population of Moscow, i.e. about 3 million people [2] . TPP-21 generates 9.1 billion kWh of electricity per year.

History
The construction of TPP-21 was started in March 1960. In 1964, the construction of the first stage of three power units with a total capacity of 300 MW was completed [3] . By 1983, the plant already had 10 units. After replacing the exhausted units from 1 to 4 in 1989-1995, the installed electric capacity of the CHPP amounted to 1330 MW.
In 1994, the station launched the first Russian expander- generator complex with a capacity of 10 MW, consisting of two DGA-5000 expander-generator units [4] . The complex receives electricity during the mandatory process of lowering gas pressure from the main gas pipeline at the CHP plant.
On June 17, 2008, a new 450 MW CCGT-450T power unit was put into operation [5] , which increased the station's capacity by a third (up to 1765 MW). A metal chimney with a height of 120 m was also built for its operation.
From 2008 to January 2009, CHPP-28 was assigned to TPP-21, serving for experimental purposes and developing new technologies for implementation at other enterprises. Since January 2009, CHPP-28 became part of CHPP-21 as “Queue-28” [6] .
To compensate for the damage caused to the environment by the operation of the CHPP, a number of special measures are in place, thanks to which from 1994 to 2004 it was possible to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere by 5 times. It is planned to introduce a number of measures to reduce noise, as a result of which the radius of the sanitary protection zone of the thermal power plant will decrease from 2.5 km to 1.1 km. In addition, since 2002, a circulating water purification scheme has been operated, which made it possible to reduce the hardness indicators and reduce its consumption [2] .
Interesting Facts
- On the night of January 3–4, 1979, a fire broke out at TPP-21 due to a rupture of the steel valve body on the bypass line (fuel oil control valve). Fuel oil and diesel fuel, heated to 140 degrees, poured out from a pipeline with a diameter of 800 mm to a working hot boiler No. 2 under a pressure of 30 atmospheres. All station service personnel left the building due to a clear threat [7] .
- TPP-21 has the largest number of cooling towers among Moscow power plants: there are 10 of them.
