Creation and premiere

Lalo consulted while working on it with cellist Adolf Fischer , who then became the first performer of the work. The premiere took place on December 9, 1877 in Paris , Jules Padlu conducted his own orchestra. The success was so great that a week later, on December 16, the program was repeated. Immediately after this, Fischer went on tour, and on January 13, 1878 the concert was performed in Vienna (conducted by Hans Richter ), and on February 16 - in Leipzig (conducted by Karl Reinecke ).

Music Feature

In the finale of the concert, the theme from Zarzuela “Man is weak” ( Spanish: El hombre es débil ) (No. 3, duet “Te llevaré a Puerto Rico ...”) was used. Pablo de Sarasate dealt with the same topic in his first habaner (No. 2 of Op. 21) , published in 1878, almost immediately after the concert of Lalo.
