Ground beetle Lopatin [1] ( lat. Carabus lopatini ) - a beetle from the family of ground beetles . Endemic of the islands of Sakhalin and Moneron . The species name is given in honor of the entomologist I.K. Lopatin.

Description
Beetle 33–39 mm long. Head and pronotum elongated, dark bronze color. Elytra convex dark bronze color with a copper-red side border. The elytra is cellular, consisting of dark-bronze tubercles and dark green or copper-red pits.
Distribution
The west coast of Sakhalin Island , on Moneron Island . It inhabits the mountainous regions of Sakhalin Island - the Susunai, Yuzhno-Kamyshevsky, Mitsulsky, Shrenka ridge. The southern border of the range is the Krillon Peninsula, the vicinity of the Uryum River and the Tonino-Aniva Peninsula are the vicinity of the village of Novikovo . The most northern place of finding the species is the vicinity of the village of Ainsky. The largest number of finds was noted in the vicinity of the city of Chekhov.
Habitat
It lives in mixed fir forests, less often inhabits thickets of Kuril bamboo, rises in the mountains to heights of up to 950 m above sea level. Found species in the alpine zone.
Species biology
Beetles are found from June to September. Polyphage predator, feeds mainly on terrestrial mollusks. Oviposition in early summer. Larvae develop before the onset of autumn. Pupation on day 35-60. Pupa stage 11 days. It has a one-year generation. The adults wintered.
Strength
Peak abundance in early July. On Sakhalin, single specimens are noted. In general, the number is universally low and is constantly decreasing due to the destruction of habitats, as a result of human activities, capture of beetles by collectors.
