Dmitry Semenovich Mirimanov ( September 13, 1861 , Pereslavl-Zalessky - January 5, 1945 , Geneva ) is a Swiss mathematician of Armenian origin, known for his works on set theory . Introduced self-belonging sets, unlike the Cantor non-self-sets and subsequent axiomatic theories. The paradox of funded classes is named after him - the Mirimanov paradox .

The subsequent development of set theory in the Western Mathematical School in the 1920s was aimed at eliminating the seemingly inconvenient self-owned sets from consideration by means of many restrictions and additional axioms (foundation axiom), but the limitations of this approach were shown in the 1930s years in the Gödel theorems ( incompleteness theorem ).
