Jaragua ( port. Pico do Jaraguá ) is a mountain in the city of São Paulo .

Height - 1135 m , this is the highest point of the state and the ridge of Serra da Cantareira . The mountain is part of the Jaragua park , formed in 1961 .
In the language of the Tupi Indians who lived here even before European colonization, the name means " Lord of the Valley ." [1] The first European settlement on the mountain in 1580 was founded by Afonso Sardinha , after the wars with the Indians, he began to mine gold , the reserves of which were exhausted in the 19th century .
Despite the limited human activities in the park, Globo , Bandeirantes and TV Cultura have installed their own TV towers on top.
In 1994, the mountain and the park were nominated by UNESCO for the granting of World Heritage property status.
