Per Axel Rydberg ( eng. Per Axel Rydberg , July 6, 1860 - July 25, 1931 ) is an American botanist of Swedish origin of the 20th century .

Biography
Born July 6, 1860 in Ode ( Swede. Odh ), in Westergötland , Sweden , but in 1882 he emigrated to the United States .
Rydberg received his bachelor's and master's degrees while studying at the University of Nebraska ( en: University of Nebraska ), and defended his doctoral dissertation ( PhD ) at Columbia University .
Since 1899, Rydberg worked in the New York Botanical Garden ( en: New York Botanical Garden ), where he became the first curator of the local herbarium .
He died on July 25, 1931 .
Scientific Outcomes
Rydberg was mainly a field botanist and a major taxonomist ; a prolific research publisher, during his scientific career he described about 1,700 new plant species. He was a specialist in the US flora ( Great Plains and Rockies ). [2]
