Geography
Nevelsky district is equated to the regions of the Far North . [eight]
Located in the southwestern part of Sakhalin Island along the coast of the Tatar Strait .
History
Nevelsky district was formed on June 5, 1946 as part of the Yuzhno-Sakhalin region of the Khabarovsk Territory . On January 2, 1947, the Yuzhno-Sakhalin Region was liquidated; its territory was included in the Sakhalin Region , which was withdrawn from the Khabarovsk Territory . In 1963 - 1965 the area was abolished.
On August 22, 1951, the Presidium of the Armed Forces of the RSFSR decided to form the Gornozavodsky district with a center in the city of Gornozavodsk, including Gornozavodsk, the workers' villages of Pervomaisk, Shebunino and the village councils of Vatutinsky, Krillonsky and Chkalovsky, separating them from the Nevelsky district [9]
On August 31, 1956, the Gornozavodsky District was abolished, the territory was transferred to the Nevelsky District [10] .
March 3, 2000 by the decision of the District Assembly of Deputies approved the coat of arms and flag of the municipality "Nevelsky district and the city of Nevelsk."
After the municipal reform, the municipality "Nevelsky District and the City of Nevelsk" was transformed into the municipality "Nevelsky District."
On December 21, 2009, the eponymous municipal district, the Nevelsky District municipality was transformed into the city district , the Nevelsky City District municipality.
