On June 17 (30), 1917, leaving Odessa with the task of delivering to Fidonisi Island (the modern name is Serpentine) the command and means for restoring the post and radio station, shortly before that were destroyed by the Breslau cruiser, was blown up on a German minefield near the island of Fidonisi. The ship broke in half, and its bow (to the bow stoker) instantly sank. The aft part remained afloat and was towed to the island of Fidonisi, after which it sank 2.5 cable from the coast. 44 people died from the crew (among them three officers, including ship commander Pavel Shtilberg).

In 1988, memorial plaques with the names of the dead were installed on Snake Island.

The nasal tip of the ship was first found off Snake Island on June 10, 2007 by divers based on archival searches. In the captain’s cabin, divers discovered a unique handwritten code of orders of 1916-1917 for the Black Sea Navy [1] .
