Geography

Area 1185 km². The district borders on Kopylsky , Dzerzhinsky , Stolbtsovsky , Slutsky , Pukhovichsky , Minsk regions of the same region.

The main rivers are the Neman , Usa , Losha , Shat . In the regional center - the city of Uzda, the river Uzdyanka (a tributary of the Neman) flows.

39.4% of the district’s territory is covered by forest [5] .

History

  • The district was formed on July 17, 1924 .
  • From 1924 to 1930 as part of the Minsk district of the BSSR.
  • Since 1930, directly subordinate to the BSSR .
  • Since January 1938 as part of the Minsk region of the BSSR.
  • By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the BSSR of December 25, 1962 "On the enlargement of rural areas of the BSSR", the region was abolished, the territory was divided between the Dzerzhinsky , Pukhovichsky and Slutsky regions of the Minsk region.
  • In 1965, the area was restored.

Demographics

The population of the district is 23,481 people, including 10,194 people living in urban conditions (as of January 1, 2018) [2] .

In 2018, 17.7% of the population of the district were younger than able-bodied, 53% - able-bodied, 29.3% - older than able-bodied [6] . Each year, 260-320 children are born in the region and 340-420 people die. The birth rate is 12.1 per 1000 people in 2017, the mortality rate is 16 [7] . The balance of internal migration in 2017 is positive (+296 people) [8] . In 2017, 161 marriages (6.9 per 1000 people) and 76 divorces (3.3) were made in the district [9] .

Economics

Revenue from sales of products, goods, works, services for 2017 amounted to 205.2 million rubles (about $ 102 million), including 89.8 million rubles accounted for by agriculture , forestry and fisheries, 64.2 million from industry , 5.3 million for construction, 36.2 million for trade and repair, 9.7 million for other types of economic activity [13] .

Industry

The largest industrial enterprise in the region (more than half of the industrial production in the region) is Mark Formel LLC, a manufacturer of ready-made clothes (established in 2009 on the basis ofCUE Uzden Garment Factory). Among other enterprises - RUE "Uzdenskoye Housing and Public Utilities" and LLC "Belkarplastik" (manufacturer of parts and components of automobiles from fiberglass and composite materials; 22% of industrial production in the region) [14] [15] .

Agriculture

The leading place in the economy of the Uzden district belongs to agriculture, which specializes in the production of milk and meat, growing grain and leguminous crops, rapeseed, sugar beets, flax and potatoes. [16]

In 2017, the agricultural organizations of the district collected 44.3 thousand tons of grain and leguminous crops with a yield of 30.9 kg / ha, 229 tons of flax fiber with a yield of 7.6 kg / ha, 98.1 thousand tons of sugar beets with a yield of 602 kg / ha [17] . In 2017, 14.8 thousand ha of arable land was sown for grain crops, 0.3 thousand ha for flax, 1.6 thousand ha for sugar beets, and 16.6 thousand ha for fodder crops [18 ] .

In 2017, the agricultural organizations of the region sold 9.7 thousand tons of cattle and poultry meat and produced 50.8 thousand tons of milk (average milk yield - 5133 kg) [19] . As of January 1, 2018, the agricultural organizations of the district contained 29.9 thousand heads of cattle, including 9.8 thousand cows [20] .

Salary

The average salary of workers in the Uzden district amounted to 82.4% of the average level in the Minsk region [21] .

Transport

The highway Minsk - Slutsk - Mikashevichi passes through the district. The city of Uzda is connected by roads with Kopyl, Maryina Gorka, and Unburnt.

Education

In the academic year 2017/2018, there were 16 pre-school education institutions in the district that served 1,040 children, and 14 general secondary education institutions with 2,483 children. The educational process was provided by 321 teachers [22] .

In Uzda, in addition to two schools, there is a district gymnasium [23] and Uzden State Agricultural Professional Lyceum [24] .

Health

In 2016, 69 practicing doctors (29.6 per 10 thousand people) and 272 paramedical workers (116.8 per 10 thousand people) worked in organizations of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus located in the region. In hospitals, there were 161 beds (69.2 per 10 thousand people) [25] .

In Uzda, there is a central district hospital (a new building with 220 beds built in 1987) and a clinic, in the countryside - 19 feldsher-midwife stations, 6 outpatient clinics and 1 nursing hospital. There are 2 health centers and 1 sanatorium in the district (UE “Sanatorium“ Podёlniki ”of the Public Association“ Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired ”). The pharmacy network consists of 4 city and 2 rural pharmacies of the Central district pharmacy No. 21 of the Uzden district and 1 private pharmacy in Uzda [26] .

Culture

In 2017, 10.2 thousand people visited the public libraries of the district, who were given 169.7 thousand copies of books and magazines [27] . In 2017, there were 14 clubs operating in the district [28] .

The Uzden District Museum of History and Local Lore operates with 12 thousand museum items of the main fund. In 2016, 12.1 thousand people visited it [29] .

There are 5 Orthodox communities, 3 communities of evangelical Christians-Baptists , 2 communities of Christians of the Evangelical faith (Pentecostals), one Roman Catholic and Muslim community in the Uzden district [30] .

Sport

Uzda football club is based in Uzda. Since 2014, it has been playing in the Second League of the national football championship.
