Padded T − 34 from the composition of the Das Reich division.

During World War II, he initially served in the Dead Head division (April – November 1940 , the French campaign), in the infantry division. Then he was transferred to the Das Reich division in the battalion of tank destroyers, first as a motorcyclist, then as a gun commander.

In March 1943, after the third battle of Kharkov , at the Comintern Locomotive Plant , the Das Reich division captured about fifty T-34 tanks that were awaiting repair. The Germans repaired 25 T-34s, arming them with the third battalion of the 2nd tank regiment of the Das Reich division. Seybold was appointed commander of one of the captured Russian tanks. Emil Zeybold won 69 “victories” [1] on the Eastern Front.

The military rank of Zeibold was the Hauptscharführer .

Post-war years

Seybold was seriously injured in 1944, but survived and died his death in 1990 .

Rewards

Tank ace Emil Zeybold was known along with Michael Wittmann . Almost all the highest orders of Nazi Germany were awarded to him, including the Knight's Iron Cross ( May 6, 1945 ) and the golden German Cross . For battles on the Eastern Front, Zeybold received Iron Crosses of the 1st and 2nd classes, a silver badge “For Wound” , “Eastern Medal” , “ Melee Badge ” in bronze and a number of other orders and signs.

Notes

  1. ↑ "Victory" according to German classification does not mean a tank destroyed in battle - it is enough to inflict damage, because of which the enemy will be forced to retreat during the battle.
