World (publisher)

The Mir Publishing House is a Soviet and Russian publishing house, one of the largest state publishing houses in the USSR , specializing in translated scientific, technical and popular science literature, and foreign fiction . It was founded in 1946 as the Publishing House of Foreign Literature , in 1964, after the reorganization of this publishing house and the State Publishing House of literature in foreign languages, it received the name "World".

History

It was founded in 1946 in Moscow by decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR as a Publishing House of Foreign Literature . [1] [2] [3]

By a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of May 4, 1946, the State Publishing House of Foreign Literature was created, which was entrusted with the publication in Russian of foreign books on certain branches of science, art and literature, as well as the study of natural science, socio-political, and fiction published abroad systematic information of central publishing houses, scientific organizations, ministries, departments and libraries about newly published foreign literature. In 1963 - 1964, the reorganization of this publishing house and the Publishing House of literature in foreign languages was carried out, resulting in the formation of publishing houses, called the "World" and " Progress " [1] [2] [3] [5] .

In 2000, the Kolos Publishing House, Transport , Chemistry , Metallurgy , Legprombytizdat and Energoatomizdat publishing houses [5] [6] were included in the World.

In 2009, the Mir Publishing House was merged with the State Unitary Enterprise "Industrial Scientific and Practical Complex" Health " [7] .

In 2003, the Federal State Unitary Enterprise ONPK HEALTH was registered [9] .

On June 15, 2012, a fire broke out in the building of the publishing house, which also spread to neighboring buildings [10] .

On July 5, 2012, the publisher's liquidation commission completed its work [11] .

In 2017, FSUE ONPK HEALTH ceased operations through reorganization in the form of transformation [12]

In 2017, ONPK ZDOROVIE JSC was registered, the founder is Rostec [13] (as of March 2019, it is current) [14] .

Publishing

The publishing house was engaged in the production of translations into Russian of foreign scientific monographs, study guides and thematic collections in mathematics, theoretical mechanics, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, geophysics, space research, geology, and new technology (including those devoted to issues of new energy sources, materials science and rocket technology). Domestic scientific works are translated and prepared for publication in English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Arabic — monographs, textbooks, and study guides for higher and secondary specialized educational institutions in natural and applied technical sciences, and in medicine. In addition, works of popular science and science fiction literature are published ( Clifford Saymak , Robert Sheckley , Isaac Asimov , Ray Bradbury ) [1] [2] [3] [5] .

The critical-bibliographic monthly magazine New Books Abroad is published (3 episodes), as well as the collections of translations Mathematics, Mechanics, and Issues of Rocket Technology [1] .

In 1972, 540 books and brochures were issued (108 million printed sheets, prints) with a total circulation of 5.7 million copies [1] .

In 1977, 402 books and brochures were published with a circulation of over 5.8 million copies [2] .

In 1979, 414 books and brochures were published with a circulation of over 7.6 million copies [3] .

Arbitration Process

In 2006, an insolvency ( bankruptcy ) case was opened against the publishing house [15] By a decision of the Moscow Arbitration Court on December 30, 2008, the publishing house was declared insolvent and bankruptcy proceedings were opened against it.

By the ruling of the Moscow Arbitration Court of June 2, 2009, the proceedings were terminated on the basis that the enterprise had fully repaid the debt to creditors based on the case file [16] .
