The name of the village comes from Chuk. meypypygyn - “big mouth, mouth” (from the Chuk. mey- / mayk- “big”, -piigg / -peeg “neck”, “mouth”) [1] .

Content

Geographical position

Located at the mouth of the river Main (First River), near the coast of the Bering Sea . The village is located on a wide seaside spit between the large lakes Pekulneysky and Vaamochka . The distance to the district center is approx. 246 km.

The last representative of the disappearing Kerek people, Khatkan, lived in Meynpilgyno [12] .

Economy and social infrastructure

The main occupation of the inhabitants is fishing and marine hunting. A floating fish processing plant operates [13] .

The village has a main secondary school and a kindergarten, which are part of the Education Center, as well as a children's art school, a hospital, a cultural center, a museum of ethnography and everyday life, a post office, a shop, a bakery.

There is an Orthodox chapel [14] .

The streets of the village [15] : Akkerman, Tynetegina, Ivneto, Nypevy, Olenevodov, Ukrainian builders, Jubilee .

Culture

The village is famous for its creative team - the national ensemble "Friendship". In the village annually is held the regional festival of hunters, China Day.
