Xie Jun

Xie Jun ( Chinese trad. 謝軍 , ex. 谢军 , pinyin : Xiè Jūn ; born October 30, 1970 , Beijing , China ) is a Chinese chess player , the seventh world champion . One of the three world champions ( Elizabeth Bykova , Xie Jun and Hou Yifan ), who managed to regain their chess crown after the break. World champion, first from 1991 to 1996, and again from 1999 to 2001. Honored trainer and international referee FIDE (2004) [2] .

Biography

At age 6, Xie began to play xiangqi . At 10, she became the Beijing champion in xiangqi among girls. At the insistence of the government, shortly afterwards, she began to play western chess .

In 1991 , Xie Jun first won the women's world western chess championship, beating Maya Chiburdanidze with a score of 8½ - 6½. In 1993, she successfully defended the title against Nana Ioseliani (winning with a score of 8½ - 2½). In the same year he became a grandmaster .

Lost the title of champion in 1996 , losing to Juzier Polgar 8½ - 4½.

In 1999 he returned the title of champion, defeating Alisa Galliamova - 8½ - 6½, after FIDE deprived Juju Polgar of the title.

In 2000, FIDE changed the format of the world championship to a knockout competition system, and Xie Jun defeated the Chinese chess player Qin Kanyin 2½ - ​​1½ in the final match, thus becoming the first chess player to win the knockout title.

In the late 1990s, she received her doctorate in psychology from Beijing Normal University .

She performs very rarely at official competitions; she played the last 4 games after a long break in early 2008 to maintain the rating .
