Career

She achieved her first success in the Moscow championship (1937, 3rd place); six-time champion of Moscow (in 1938-52) and three-time champion of the USSR (1947, 1948, 1950). During the Great Patriotic War, she appeared in Moscow hospitals with lectures on chess and simultaneous game sessions.

In 1953, she won the world championship match against Lyudmila Rudenko with a score of 8: 6. In the late 50s - early 60s. in Moscow she played three matches for the world championship (in 1958 and 1960 she won against O. N. Rubtsova and K. A. Zvorykina ). In 1962, she lost the title to None Gaprindashvili . She performed in Moscow tournaments until the end of the 70s.

She was buried at the Khovansky cemetery .

Rewards

She was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor .

Memory

In 2012, the initiative group Memorial Elizabeth Bykova was created in Vladimir, the purpose of which is to erect a monument to the work of sculptor Ilya Shanin in the village of Bogolyubovo. The initiative group created the site of the same name - memorialbykovoi.ru.

2013 was declared FIDE by the Year of Elizabeth Bykova.
